Choose Your Own Adventure

Updated: Mar 14, 2019

One of the many delights of living near Medford and Ashland is the discovery of an often overlooked camping and recreation destination. The Valley of the Rogue State Park is not an obvious choice when searching for adventure, but this park has plenty to offer for a relaxing getaway or some family fun on the beautiful Rogue River. Located just North of Medford and Ashland, off I-5 between Rogue River and Gold Hill, the park is open year round which makes it the perfect staycation for those living nearby, or a great weekend stop for those traveling through Southern Oregon on the Interstate. Of the park's 140 sites, we like B loop, with it's many riverfront locations and full hookups.

After settling in at your campsite, unload your bicycles for a very pleasant four mile ride along the river on the Rogue River Greenway Trail. Not a cyclist? Take a friend, the kids, or Fido for a nice leisurely walk on this scenic stretch of the Greenway. Step off the trail to walk down to the river and take some photos of a beautiful stretch of the Rogue River. You may even see some rafts or fishing boats floating by while taking in the sights.

Before wrapping up your day, Del Rio Vineyard, accessible by bicycle or car, is less than five miles away. If you’re visiting in the summer, you can enjoy some outdoor music while sampling a delicious glass of wine in one of the most beautiful vineyards in the area.

Gearing up for the Wild & Scenic portion of the river!

If this relaxing scene is not your cup of tea, head into Grants Pass for a Hellgate Jetboat excursion down the Rogue River. This river trip is not to be missed! Runs daily May through September. Want even more adventure? The Rogue Valley ZipLine Adventure is less than six miles away in Central Point. Come on, you know you want to do it! Check it out; It’s open all year.

For the cyclists among you, plan your trip around the Ride the Rogue in the fall. This is a fundraiser to help build the Rogue River Recreational Corridor and Greenway. Choose the century ride, or opt for a shorter, easier ride. There’s something for everyone! The Valley of the Rogue Park is a great place to stay during this event.

Team Sweet Dreams geared up for a bike ride on the Rogue River Greenway.

Whether you choose to enjoy some leisure time or chase adventure during the day, don’t miss out on an evening of relaxation around the campfire. Nothing says camping like a campfire and a perfectly roasted marshmallow. Please be responsible campers and follow campground rules and regulations when building your fire. Together, we can protect our forests and keep our air clean!

The sound of the river lulling you to sleep is the perfect end to your day at one of my favorite local camping destinations. Take out one of our Rv Rentals and we will set you up with everything you need to begin your adventure at Valley of the Rogue State Park.
